HOW WE GOT STARTED......

Lynne’s Legacy Outreach dba Washington Parish STEM was created with a purpose rooted in love, legacy, and opportunity. Our work is dedicated to the founder and Executive Director’s mother, Lynne Marie Toler, who served in the educational system in this community for many years and passed away suddenly in 2016. Her passion for education and her commitment to uplifting others continues to inspire everything we do

This mission is also in memory of her son, Dallas Charles Smoot, who passed away in 2018 at the age of 2 after battling complications from birth. This organization was built to honor the dreams she had for him by ensuring that other children have access to meaningful, hands on learning experiences and opportunities he never had the chance to experience

How It All Started

After years in STEM outreach, our founder and Executive Director, Mrs. Taryn Spikes Webb, saw a clear need in our community for greater access to high quality STEM opportunities. In 2024, she made the decision to open this nonprofit using her own personal funds as the startup. Her vision was to create a space where students could explore, learn, and grow through hands on experiences that are often limited in rural areas

Leadership and Expertise

Mrs. Taryn Spikes Webb personally designs our curriculum and programs. She brings over a decade of experience in K 12 education, along with 7 years in higher education and workforce development. She holds a master’s degree in Information Technology, multiple industry certifications, and has a proven track record of implementing impactful programs that create real results for students and communities

She also serves as the Outreach Program Manager at Northshore Technical Community College and sits on the Advisory Committee for the Southeastern Northshore STEM Center at Southeastern Louisiana University

Our Team and Partnerships

Our team is highly trained and passionate about student success. We are supported by mentors in various STEM fields,  educators, and professionals with backgrounds in social work. Washington Parish STEM has built strong partnerships across Washington Parish and surrounding parishes, and our network continues to grow as we expand opportunities and impact more students

Our Facility and Equipment

We currently have 8 rooms equipped with engaging, hands on technology dedicated to STEAM education, including robotics for all ages, 3D printers, engineering concept kits, drones, simulators, microscopes, chemistry lab kits, virtual reality systems, gaming consoles, study areas, and so much more. Even more opportunities will be opening soon to the general public.

Our camps and workshops are designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning through hands on STEAM experiences. From robotics and coding to science labs and interactive challenges, students do not just learn they explore, build, and discover

Our programs go beyond supervision. Every activity and lesson is intentionally designed to challenge students, build confidence, and encourage critical thinking while preparing them for future opportunities

Inclusive for All Learners

All workshops are thoughtfully designed for every student and can be modified to support youth who need accommodations or have sensory sensitivities. Smaller group settings are available when needed

Supporting a Greater Mission

All program fees directly support our programs, our robotics team, our esports team, and help us create even more opportunities for students in our community. Fees also help cover operational costs so we can continue to grow and serve

We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization and all fees and donations are tax deductible.
